Maria, to address the problems of which you speak (add electoral college, second amendment, and women’s health) would require amendments to our Constitution. And that would require a super majority (2/3) in Congress and an even greater majority (3/4) of states to ratify. In Congress we have a body where the foxes are in charge of the henhouse, so there are no incentives for change from that front.

Ultimately, change would have to come from the people, and I for one do not see how that could happen without some kind of sea change of attitude of our near-evenly-divided electorate.

Maybe we need some kind of catastrophe to break the logjam. The pandemic wasn’t enough. Perhaps WW3, an incoming asteroid, or an alien invasion?

Problem is, though our founders did a pretty good job in crafting our rulebook, they designed it to be too hard to change.
