D-Day was vital and an important event because it created a path to victory for the Allies. That, and the awe inspiring bravery of young men storming the beaches gives it a true place of honor in our history.

What sacrifice that generation gave to preserve democracy.

Will this generation do the same?

Hitler’s war machine was broken by the Soviet Union, not the western allies.
I do not wish to overlook the valor and sacrifice by U.S. soldiers and others on the western front by any means. I honor them.
But please, let’s preserve a realistic perspective on military history.
And, what about Antietam? Shiloh? Gettysburg? Spottsylvania Courthouse? Should there be national holidays for those significant battles also?
We already have two national holidays to honor veterans, Memorial Day and Veterans Day.
That’s enough, please.
