Jazz Legend Allan Harris Comes to Oxford

April 25, 2025 by Oxford Community Center Leave a Comment

Share

The Oxford Community Center is proud to present world-renowned jazz vocalist Allan Harris on Friday, May 2, for a one-night-only performance honoring the legendary Nat King Cole. Part of the acclaimed Jazz Series On Stage at OCC, the concert invites audiences to experience the rich, velvety tones of Cole’s songbook through the singular voice of one of today’s most celebrated interpreters.

Described by The New York Times as a “velvet-voiced baritone with an earthy edge,” Allan Harris has captivated audiences around the globe with his masterful storytelling, elegant phrasing, and genre-defying performances. His tribute to Nat King Cole is more than a concert—it’s a deeply personal homage to an artist who helped define American music and break racial barriers along the way.

“He was for everybody,” said Harris. “He sang for the world, and he delivered the exact songs that the composers wrote. When you heard a Nat King Cole song, you heard every word, every syllable, and it made sense. It was just wonderful.”

Backed by a stellar jazz trio, Harris will perform some of Cole’s most beloved songs, from the buoyant charm of “Rambling Rose” to the silken romance of “Unforgettable,” delivered with the diction, warmth, and storytelling that make Harris a standout on any stage.

“We’re honored to bring Allan Harris to our stage,” said Liza Ledford, Executive Director of the Oxford Community Center. “His connection to this music is palpable, and it will be a night of beauty, nostalgia, and extraordinary talent in an intimate setting.”

It provides attendees the chance to “Meet the Artists”, view the original artwork and buy art! This has always been a fun evening where attendees get to mingle with the artists and enjoy cocktails as well as partake of delicious hors d’oeuvres while getting first looks at the collection.

During the Preview Party awards are given out. Thank you to our art sponsors for providing award winning money for the artists. This year the Awards are:

2025 will be the 41st year for the Fine Arts Show to be held May 16 – 18. The event consistently attracts art enthusiasts due to the quality of the exhibitors. The show is always fresh based on the fact that there is a new juror every year.  This year famed Plein Air Easton artist, Sara Linda Poly is the juror. This summer Sara Linda Poly was the featured artist of the International Artist Magazine, and was selected to participate in the world class Easton Plein Air Festival. In 2016 she won the grand prize of PAE and in 2017 won first place in the small painting competition. To learn more about the juror visit, saralindapolystudio.com.

The schedule of events for the weekend begins with the Friday night Preview Party. It provides attendees the chance to “Meet the Artists”, view the exhibit and buy art! This has always been a fun evening where attendees get to mingle with the artists and enjoy cocktails as well as partake of delicious hors d’oeuvres while getting first looks at the art collection. On Saturday, the exhibit is open to the public 10:00 AM – 5:00 PM. On Sunday, the show is open once again to the public at 10:00 AM and closes at 4:00 PM. The raffle of beautiful artwork donated by the artists happens at the end of the show with a toast of bubbly for the occasion. Global Jazz Phenom, Hannah Gill

Oxford, Md – Eastern Shore native and jazz vocalist Hannah Gill returns to her hometown for a special night at the Oxford Community Center, kicking off the musical series “The Stage @ OCC” on May 25th.

Gill, who has emerged as a distinguished jazz singer, songwriter, and performer, is currently signed with Turtle Bay Records. Her debut jazz album, “Everybody Loves A Lover,” released in September 2023, has received widespread praise, amassing over 10 million Spotify streams and 22 million YouTube views. She has toured the world numerous times in collaboration with Postmodern Jukebox, and her resume features performances with jazz pianist Gordon Webster, the Glenn Crytzer Orchestra, and Grammy-winner Vince Giordano.

The 26-year-old’s unique voice has been written about in the New York Times, Teen Vogue, NPR, and the Syncopated Times, which describes it as “a crisp Ivy League voice of the era, rich, with a casual confidence.” In a review of her album, All About Jazz notes that the swing era standards selections “while staying true to the original music,” are infused with her style, “which is inflected with blues and soul.”

Liza Ledford, Executive Director of OCC, looks forward to welcoming Gill: “Hannah’s success on the global stage reflects the rich artistic heritage of our community, and we look forward to celebrating her journey and musical prowess right here in her Eastern Shore roots.”

Gill will bring her NYC septet jazz band, which includes female vocals, piano, bass, drums, trombone, trumpet, and clarinet/saxophone. This will be an unforgettable evening of jazz and a rare opportunity to experience the magic of Hannah Gill in the place where her musical journey began!

Limited VIP tickets are available that include a meet and greet with Hannah and the band after the show with desserts and bubbly, as well as front cabaret seating and two drink tickets.
