Trump.

He trashed our entire intelligence community (CIA, NSA, FBI, et al.) when those agencies concluded that Russia helped him win the 2016 election.

In 2020 he alleged widespread voter fraud when there was no evidence beyond the minimal expected in any election.

He helped spread the idea of the “Deep State” conspiracy working to subvert conservative American values. Who are members of the deep state? I wish I knew.

He constantly attacks our courts as being unfair (if he wasn’t hauled into court so often, he wouldn’t have to).

He has attacked our allies around the world while pushing US nationalism (We can’t trust our friends).

He appointed three Supreme Court justices who now, along with Proud Boy Alito and self-enriching Thomas, make the Court appear biased toward conservative rather than the liberal democratic values of the majority of Americans.

Another example of trust undermining: My climate scientist friend worked for NOAA, which is part of the US Department of Commerce. Under Trump’s Commerce Secretary, Wilbur Ross, orders came from “the top” that the phrases “global warming” and “climate change” were not to be used in any communication within NOAA or to the outside. This was so revolting that my friend decided to retire early.

How can one have confidence in any institution when all are trashed by the most powerful voice in the land?
