The Working Artists Forum is pleased to invite the public to a member’s exhibit from May 1 through June 30, 2025, at the Gallery at the Market at Dover Station.

The exhibit, titled “All Things Spring”, is in a dedicated gallery space within the Market. Opening reception is First Friday, May 2, from 5-7 p.m.

Enjoy light refreshments and a beautiful selection of studio and plein air works by 24 regional artists. 

Launched in 1979 by a small group of artists, Working Artists Forum – now with over 100 members – is a thriving arts organization with many vital connections within the Eastern Shore’s arts community.  Members exhibit widely, win awards, teach classes and workshops, and actively participate in arts events throughout our region.

The Market at Dover Station is a new and unique shopping, dining and social experience located in a renovated 1912 warehouse at 500 Dover Street in the heart of historic Easton, Maryland.

The Working Artist Forum is pleased to invite the public for a live talk and demonstration with Danni Dawson.

Danni Dawson received her BA and MFA degrees from George Washington University and apprenticed with Nelson Shanks.  A professional artist and teacher for over 25 years, Danni has exhibited her paintings nationally and internationally, and has received many awards including the Allied Artist Award, the Salmagundi Painting Prize, the Audubon Award, and an award for painting from the National Academy of Art and Design.  Her work has also been featured in American Artist.

With over 300 portraits to her credit, Danni Dawson has painted heads of state, dignitaries, and university officials as well as senior members oof the military and medical communities.  Her portraits ad still lifes are displayed in collections throughout the world.

The Exhibition takes place Thursday, July 17th – Sunday July 20th at Easton’s Christ  Church, and is held in conjunction with The Plein Air Easton Art Festival. Forty-two  juried artists from the WAF membership and local artists from the Eastern Shore participate each year. 

The Working Artists Forum presents its 21st Annual Local Color Art  Show & Sale which is held in conjunction with The Plein Air Easton Art Festival.  

Any artists in the DelMarVa Peninsula (MD, DE, VA) and/or a member of the  Working Artists Forum is eligible to enter. 42 Artists will be juried into the show. Artists must submit 3 images of their two dimensional work to the site. (Studio or  Plein Air artwork)

The Working Artists Forum’s 1st Annual Pretty in Pink Art Show and Sale, held on October 4 at the Waterfowl Building in Easton, raised $13,918 to benefit patient care and outreach programs offered by the Clark Comprehensive Breast Center at UM Shore Regional Health (UM SRH). Monthly meetings promise camaraderie while members and guests enjoy a demonstration by a well-known guest artist. Working Artist Forum donates monies to support art programs in Eastern Shore elementary schools. Membership in the organization is contingent on a committee-based portfolio review.

WAF is excited that 40 of its members will be participating in an exhibit and sale of their art works at the 2024 Waterfowl Festival in the Christ Church Parish Hall, on Harrison Street.The art show is scheduled for November 7th thru 9th.

Well-known plein air artist John Brandon Sills will judge the WAF show. The exhibit will be part of the ticketed Premiere Night festivities.

The Working Artists Forum is proud to announce a painting demonstration by renowned artist, Palden Hamilton on Tuesday, October 8, 2024 at 10:00 am until noon at the Academy Art Museum.  This demonstration is open and Free to the public.

Palden Hamilton was encouraged from an early age to pursue art by his parents and his Great Aunt, the abstract expressionist Elaine Hamilton O’neal (1920 –2010). He attended the Gilman School, where he studied under Betsey Heuisler. After receiving his B.F.A. from The School of the Art Institute of Chicago in 2002, he continued his education at the Art Students League of New York, where he studied under Ron Sherr, Harvey Dinnerstein, and Mary Beth Mckenzie. There he was awarded a Merit Award in Realism and the Phylis T. Mason Grant.

Hamilton has done a range of commissioned portrait work since returning to his hometown of Baltimore. He was notably commissioned to paint Maestro Yuri Temirkanov, the musical director of the St. Petersburg Philharmonic Orchestra in Russia. In 2008, 2017, and 2018, he was awarded Certificates of Excellence from the Portrait Society of America, for placing in the top 30 entries in their international portrait competition.

Hamilton has painted landscape extensively on location in his native Maryland, and on travels to his mother’s homeland, the Himalayan kingdom of Sikkim. As a landscape artist, he has participated in and received honors from Plein Air Easton, Olmsted Plein Air Invitational, Wayne Plein Air, Solomons Plein Air, and Cape Ann Plein Air.

His work was most recently featured in “The Oil Painter’s Color Handbook” (Monacelli Press, 2022), Fine Art Connoisseur Magazine’s “Five to Watch” in 2020, and Plein Air Magazine’s “11 Rising Stars to Add to Your Collection” in 2019.

Hamilton has been an art instructor for over twenty years, teaching at the Maryland Institute College of Art (MICA), the Zoll Studio School of Fine Art, Chesapeake Fine Art Studio, and others.

Working Artists Forum is proud to present a talk on “Intuition & Its Role In Creative Invention Of All Sort” by Rebecca Hoffberger.  This talk will be held on Tuesday, September 10, from 10:30 – noon at the Academy Art Museum in Easton, MD.  The event is free and open to the public.

Rebecca Alban Hoffberger is the Founder and Director Emeritus of the American Visionary Art Museum (AVAM). Her extraordinary vision for the museum was promptly recognized in 1998 by The Urban Land Institute, with its coveted National Award for Excellence, making AVAM the first museum ever to be so recognized by the organization. Her election to the Baltimore City Chamber of Commerce in 1999 followed this award. She was inducted into the Maryland Women’s Hall of Fame and awarded the President’s Award of the Maryland YWCA in 2006.

The Working Artists Forum is pleased to sponsor painting demonstrations at their monthly meetings which are free and open to the public. The demo artist for the March meeting is Stacey Sass, a well-regarded local watercolor artist. The demo will take place on Tuesday March 12th at 10:30am at the Academy Art Museum in Easton.

Stacey Sass will demonstrate the process of creating watercolor monotypes using a simple plexiglass plate. This one-off printing process is a hybrid medium that can produce delightful randomness that is hard to achieve with traditional watercolor techniques. A seafood still life will be used for the subject matter.

Stacey earned an MFA degree from the Maryland Institute College of Art in 1988. After a career as an art teacher, she is now taking time to paint for herself. She is a plein air addict and often paints from her boat. Her subject matter includes not only water and boat themes but also landscape and still life. She is involved in local art organizations and continues to be engaged in private and group watercolor lessons.
